Emma Cort Lactation Consultant

Hello! I am Emma Cort a registered Adult Nurse, Midwife and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

My breastfeeding education started while I was training to be a midwife at the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery at King’s College London (KCL), on its UNICEF Baby Friendly Accredited Midwifery programme.

Since qualifying from KCL, I have accumulated over 13 years’ experience supporting women and their babies in my role as a Midwife. I identified early on that my passion lay with supporting women on their breastfeeding journey, educating them before birth as well as supporting them when the baby arrives. I am passionate about my work in maternal care, as I know I can make a real difference to families during new and exciting, but sometimes daunting, times in their lives.

Over the years I have lived and worked overseas supporting women in difficult and/or isolating circumstances. I have been able to share my knowledge and skills allowing families to be prepared for what is to come. It has been essential for the success in their first few weeks and months but also for the long term health of mother and baby. Your family or support network may not be nearby or share your breastfeeding aims, if you want someone to be part of your army and help get breastfeeding going, I can be that support.

As an NHS community Midwife I provided the support women need postnatally. Following my passion for supporting mother’s in their feeding choices, I became the Infant Feeding team lead at my local hospital before having my first child. Subsequently, I took the opportunity to take the time to study for the IBCLC, and in April 2019 I became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.

My professional registrations are with the NMC and the IBLCE. I am a member of the LCGB, and am fully insured with Balens Ltd.

I work in and around the Woking area and will travel within Surrey, as well a virtual consultants for families from all over the world.
